How will the free update to windows 7 work?

i bought a computer a month or so ago. It came with a free update to windows 7. im curious on how it will work, will it download itself, will i need to load it manually and so forth.

You have to register for it at the manufacturer’s website.
They then send you a disc in the mail after release. It should be very similar to if not identical to the "upgrade" Windows 7 discs that are for sale.
Do you guys really think windows 7 is as good as the hype? Or is it truly just another vista flop?
