I had vista on my laptop, upgraded to windows 7. It’s working good, but I would like to reformat my computer. The only problem is my windows 7 discs are for upgrading. I’m afraid if i wipe my disc clean, I won’t be able to use the upgrade discs on my fresh drive. Is there a way?

for this specific issue, you would have to obtain the actual "INSTALLATION" disk form your laptop manufacture.
it usually costs about $19, some even provide free.
and some actually offer it in a downloadable .iso format that you burn yourself
Boot from the upgrade discs, and you should have the option to format the drive during the installation process (around the point where you’re choosing which drive to install to).
If you wipe the drive yourself outside of the installation, you’ll remove the OS the upgrade discs want to see, and you’d need to follow the following:
Boot from the upgrade discs
Hello Patrick,
Reformatting your hard disk will delete all the data from the disk, there may be some better alternatives. I suggest you go to Windows Help and Support for "recovery options". Try the other recovery and diagnostic tools before reformatting.
