How important is an Xbox 360 hard drive?

I just recently purchased an Xbox 360 Arcade and am trying to figure out some things about getting a hard drive for it. Someone told me you need a hard drive for online, why is that? Also will a 20GB be fine? I’m not going to be downloading a bunch of music or anything.

A hard drive is important if you want to create your own account and keep all your memory saved. Plus you will need it if you want to play Xbox Live. They are inexpensive if you want them. They come in 20 GB, 120GB. Yes 20GB will be fine.
you cant play without it…
It depends, you do need some kind of mem unit, but the arcade should come with a memory card. You only need a harddrive if you want to download DLC or any XBLA games. Also you can use it to mod…… not that i’d know…..
very important.
you don’t need a HDD to play online. you just need the memory-space to store an Xbox Live account which is usually around 2mb so a memory card would work fine for that…
20GB is needed if you want to keep game-saves and download a minimal amount of content from XBL’s Marketplace… but…
if you want to install the games you buy and play to your HDD then buy 60GB or 120GB. playing installed games will keep your 360 a lot quieter, cooler and keep your console rumbling a lot less (this will help avoid certain RROD errors. rumbling + over-heating will cause your Xbox 360’s motherboard to bend overtime and increase the chances of RROD.)
well you can play games with out it it’s just for game add-ons,music,films and installing games so yes and no
it would make sense just to get a 20gb one just now then see how you like it and get higher if you need.
