It allows you to play as two new races; one for Horde, one for Alliance. 2. it allows you to become a jewel crafter. 3. It adds the Outworld and the two new races' starting areas. 4. It raises the level cap to 70. There are other things it introduced as well, but I believe you won't need the expansion to use them. Note that while you can't become a Jewel Crafter without the expansion, you can use their creations. The expansion doesn't remove anything from the game, but your friends won't be able to follow you into the Outworld or into the new races' homelands if they don't have it too. Expansion pack version: lvl 70 cap Jewellery crafting and all the extended features are there.
