I currently have Windows Vista and a trial version of Windows 7 on my hard drive and I want to download 7 over both. What will happen to the files?

Hello Alex,
Since you are running a trial version of Windows 7 you will need to either revert to Windows Vista by reinstalling or install Windows 7 as a custom installation and both options will wipe your programs, settings and files from the hard disk. I suggest you backup all your data and follow these directions for performing a custom installation: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7-custom.

you will lose them if you formatt
If u want to have both then install 7 in another hard drvie. While booting it asks for your option to go to 7 or the other. i tried in xp it works,
but if u try to install in same drive the all file would be swept off..
then no restore settings is there at that point.
If you have room on your hd you can try to partition it so you will have 2 partitions, install 7 on one partition and keep xp on the other.
I have used http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html?tag=mncol
It works great and its easy. It may help you.
there may be an option while booting but prob. not. you should save to an external harddrive. or maybe use like a billion flash drives lol.
