i certainly will discourage you to do that.
You’d have to ask Dell, but I think one of two things will happen:
Either system restore will refuse to run because there’s no Vista installation to restore
or
It will run and create a mess, and you’ll have to install 7 from scratch.
You should ask Dell first, but it shouldn’t mess with the OS at all, if it’s Windows that is messed up, restore Windows. The Dell restore should only restore firmware, like the BIOS and other crap that is hardware dependent.
well it depends:
normally Dell and HP system restore keep the necessary files in another drive apart from C drive where windows is installed so if you haven’t format that drive use your system restore CD/DVD and revert it.
Possibly, but I wouldn’t try it. Usually once the operating system has been changed from what it was when the computer left the factory, the manufacturer’s system restore CD (or equivalent) should no longer be used. Dell support would have the final answer whether that is possible or recommended for your specific model.
It depends on what exactly they’ve set up for system restore, and it depends on if you’re using a disc they gave you to restore or using a partition already on the computer.
If you’re using a system restore disc they gave you, it will definitely go back to Vista.
If you’re using a built-in partition on the computer they set up, it will either (1) go back to Vista, or (2) fail to continue to function correctly at all.
Windows 7 has built in system restore and its pretty good. Its saved my a** before.
If you have a recovery partition from vista, delete it and regain some space. Thats what I did on my HP. Just make sure you have a windows 7 DVD around in case things go beyond the point of system restore. And back up your drivers.
