Help installing RAM?
Ok, so I bought a new stick of RAM today, 1 gig. This is what I bought.

well I tried to stick it into the empty slot of my computer, but the latches on the side dont snap into place like its supposed to, and Im scared to push any harder.
My computer says it has 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory so Im pretty sure i bought the right type.
Do I just need to push it in harder? Or am i doing something wrong

If you take a flashlight, and look at the bottom of the ram slot, you’ll notice a locating lug,(The links photo of ram, shows a photo of Sdram,(SDR Sdram), by the way! Not DDR!). This lines up with the notch, (or cut-out), in the bottom of the ram ’stick’. The notch LOOKS like it’s in the center, but it’s NOT! There are less ‘fingers,(contacts), on one side than the other. It must be lined up correctly. Sometimes new ram is a bit stiff to install, especially if it’s being put into a ram slot that has never been used. Be absolutely sure the ram is lined up correctly, push down on one side a little, then go to the other side. Make sure the ‘ears’,(Lock tab’s), are all the way to the outside, and the bottom of each corner of the ram stick, is resting partly in the lock tab. When you push down, each lock tab should start to come up to a vertical position. The more the ram stick goes down, the more the lock comes up. Make sure the lock tabs are fully engaged in the corresponding notch on each side of the ram stick. You should hear a ‘click’. (Not always, but most of the time.)
you could be putting it on backwards……..
i like to put one end in then the other…sometimes you do have to push very hard…….

Don’t be afraid to push it in harder.Try to reverse it sideways and push it the other way.
