The Best Place to get High Speed Internet when you live in the boonies?
My parents live NE Colorado, way out in the middle of nowhere. They go through a local company, but only have dial up internet available to them. They have tried other companies like qwest and so on but they said the high speed service does not work out there. They have a brand new HP computer. But there internet is so slow. With todays technology they have to have some kinda of internet that can reach them . The are only 12miles out of the nearest town. Any suggestions??

Well, in most areas you are faced with only three answers to this.
1. Fixed Wireless — WIFI service – if carriers are in the area.
2. Satelite Service.
3. Cellular 3G internet service.
If there is fixed wireless from a wifi (called a WISP) then you can get that usually cheaper than the next two options.
You can check a couple of web sites to see if there are any available
http://www.wispdirectory.com/ or http://www.onelasvegas.com/wireless/CO.html
Or do a search for wifi service in your town like Denver WISP etc.
The next best one would be high speed internet over cellular. If a cell phone works then you should be able to get internet coverage from the carrier! These are usually around 50-60/mo but will get much better speeds than dialup.
Today’s high-speed technologies all depend on hard-wired connections, like copper wires or optical fibers. If money is no object, your parents can pay to have a company bring the wires out to their home, and then they can have any speed they want. Otherwise they are limited to dial-up, or (possibly) ISDN, which is faster, although it’s not available on every telephone line (have them check with the telco).
Satellite but very expensive.
They probably already have satellite TV. Dish Network and DirectTV both offer internet through their dish. Upload speed will still be restricted by the phone line, but they’ll get much better download speed.
Phone companies have wirelss internet cards but you have to pay montly.
