Laptop help please, what should do?
I bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago. It is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I absolutely love it so far and it was only 9! But, I am worried about one thing…On Best Buy’s website, it has like 23 reviews. They are all great except for 1. The bad one is about the display and Acer’s warranty. My question is that the LCD is acting weird sometimes. It gets distorted and kind of strange and off color. It has done this a couple of times and then it goes back to being okay. I found this on Acer’s website:
"TFT displays commonly exhibit a small number of discolored dots, so-called “nonconforming pixels.” This phenomenon is a limitation of TFT LCD technology, not a product defect and, as such, is not covered by the limited warranty or by the upgrade programs."
Should I be concerned and do you think this is the problem with this computer? I am trying to decide if I should return it or just hope it is okay. For what I paid, I don’t think I could get anything comparable.
I need some advice ASAP because Best Buy has a 14 day return policy and today is 14 days. Is this something I will experience on any laptop with this kind of display?
Thanks for your help!!
Thanks for all the help. I know it was really inexpensive, so I should expect some issues, but overall I love it. I know I don’t want anything larger than 14.1 inches. I am going to exchange it for now and see how the new one acts!!!

well it doesn’t hurt to exchange it for another one of the same one and see if that one does it also worst comes to worst you will just get another 14 days to make your decision
Take it to Best Buy right now and see if they will give you an exchange or get this one fixed.
Don’t forget there’s a 15% restocking fee at Best Buy for opened laptops. I think you’d be ok.
However, another thing I should mention is that online reviews like that are typically inflated. No one thinks the item they spent their money on is bad. After all, they all purchased it. Therefore, I typically give more weight to the bad reviews.
Another thing to mention: the silly thing is extremely cheap. Therefore, it’s likely to have some issues simply because of the fact that it’s a budget laptop.
return it ..before its to late..or exchange it.i wouldnt mess with it being there is some problem going on steve
If the display is acting up within the first 2 weeks. Take it back. It could be a simple loose connection but it could be a real hardware failure and you could be stuck with it once you need to go to the manufacture for support.
NEVER shop at best buy
It sounds to me like it could be a loose monitor cable. The statement you included refers to stuck pixels on the monitor and is not related to the screen appearing distorted and off color.
I would check the cables first and if it still shows problems take it back to best buy.
What you describe isn’t "nonconforming pixels". Those will be tiny, almost unnoticeable "spots" of color or white in contrast to the surrounding color. What you’re describing sounds more like electronic interference, or the monitor or video adapter resetting itself. As an example, I have a bloodhound who has a very resonant bark. If he’s in the room where my computer is, and barks, my monitor screen will "ripple", as if it’s made of liquid, then return to normal. Your laptop screen may be reacting to electronic interference, from a cell phone or other electronic device being too close. If it returns to normal quickly, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It might be worth a call to Acer tech support and discuss it with them.
