which is better and why quad core or daul core?
Hi, I was looking to buy a new computer. I wanted a quad core because of the speed, but i heard that daul core is faster with most of todays games and apps. I heard that Daul core uses "threading" which means that the 2 cores work together to give you the speed. So a daul core of 2.4 ghz is actually 4.8 ghz. Ok.. But quad core dont work like that is what i heard. Quad core uses the core seprately. So if you have a 2.4 ghz quad core, the most you will get out of it is 2.4 unless you "over clock" but even then you would only get about 3 ghz. I also heard that nearly all of todays games and apps dont even use the quad core technology. They just lay there and go to waste. I assume what i have said is basicly true, but i am not 100 percent sure. I would like to get a couple years out of my new pc and be able to handle newer games for some time. I got 5 years out of my P4 2.8 ghz. So, that all being said, which is better daul or quad?

Quad cores will give you much better performance. What you’ve heard is simply wrong. Threading is simple when a program can split the task into multiple processes and put them onto different cores. The only problem I can see is that Windows 2000 (and possibly XP) are intentionally limited to run with only 2 cores (or processors.) I set up a rendering system and the quad core ran circles around the dual core systems. Any modern operating system and game will take advantage of the extra cores and you will notice much greater performance.
