for optimum game play you really want to hook them up with either a cross-over cable or through a switch (or hub). make sure that both systems are on the same network if using a cross-over you don’t need a default gateway address just give one system the IP address of 192.168.1.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and make the other 192.168.1.2 with the same subnet. go to the command prompt and verify connectivity by ping. most likely one system will have to be the server and the other will log onto it to establish game play.
