Windows 7 question?????????
Ok well, i have a toshiba satelite L300 laptop, and it has certain drivers specifically like it… like the webcam driver ect.. I currently have windows vista home premium.
If i do i clean install with windows 7 , will it wipe all my drivers off of the laptop? if so…. is there a way for me to access my drivers on my laptop, and back them up on an external hard drive?
I have 1 gig of ram….Does xp mode on win7pro require more than that? how do i know if i have the virtualization stuff for my laptop to get xp mode to work?
Thanyou :]

I think you have to reinstall drivers, because some, even if not erased, may not be compatible with W7, I suggest you go to toshiba website and find the drivers there, I have an hp laptop and found drivers on their website for W7
microsoft.commicrosoft.comcsd.toshiba.comcsd.toshiba.combefore doing any thing i recommend that you download the windows 7 upgrade advisor from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15&displaylang=en
it will check whether your drivers are compatible with 7 and whether it can detect your drivers automatically. if it did then your good to go.
if it didn’t then check for the compatibility of your drivers in your laptops website.
as for xp mode follow this link and it should have all the info:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
and i think your model (satelite pro L300) drivers support windows 7: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ct=SB&soid=2467684&ref=EV
and this link will show you exactly what to do to update your drivers: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?soid=2450599
A clean install means that it will not use any of your existing drivers. A clean install, without formatting, will put Windows 7 into a separate folder from your existing XP or Vista installation.
So, it will not wipe the existing drivers but it will not use them either. I’m not sure why you would want them as Win7 will install the ones appropriate for your hardware. I have web cams, and many other devices on my laptop at home and work. Windows 7 did a great job of installing the latest and best drivers for everything – even stuff that I didn’t have drivers for in XP.
As far as XP mode, it requires 1 GB of RAM in addition to what Win7 needs so you would need to add additional RAM if you really need to use it.
You have to go into your BIOS and verify that it supports Hardware-Assisted Virtualization and that features is enabled.
You also have to purchase Win7 professional or ultimate as home premium doesn’t support XP mode.
But first, why do you think you need XP mode? I have yet to come across any software that I use that requires it, other than netmeeting. I have a very extensive software library in both locations as I’m a IT Architect, I develop software and I play a lot of games.
Not to mention that XP Mode does have some issues. Most virus scanners can handle it and many virus attacks/events may go missed.
I’d really investigate if you need XP mode or not.
hey whats your myspace page.
