Aside from increased ram, better processor, video capability, oil resistant screen, I have trouble differentiating iPhone 3g and iPhone 3gs. I heard that the lettering on the back of 3GS is shiny and chromed compared to the dull lettering on the 3g and the model number on the 3g is something like 1241 and the 3gs is 1321 or something like that.

The 3Gs can achieve 7.2mbps on HSDPA while the 3G can only achieve 3.6mbps
The only difference is the part on that back bottom area that says the gb is silver and shiny…not gray
absolutely nothing. it weights the same too. now theres a difference between those AND THE IPHONE 4 which juz came out but dont buy dat yet cuz it got connection issues juz reserve it cuz then theyill give u the good ones. the iphone 4 is smaller, flat, it got a camera in the front too, it goes faster, 100 new things its amazin i luv it
The easiest way to tell the difference is to look for the compass app. It’s a factory-installed app on the 3gs which is not on the 3g.
The easy way to identify the 3G and 3GS is through the model number printed on the back of the iPhone.
The 3G model number is: A1241
The 3GS model number is: A1303
Hey Alex, they are more or less identical when it comes to the aesthetics, the technical differences are:
1. The 3Gs has a much faster processor than the 3G
2. The 3Gs can achieve 7.2mbps on HSDPA while the 3G can only achieve 3.6mbps
3. The 2.0 megapixel camera of the 3G has been replaced with a 3.0 megapixel camera that supports video recording in the 3Gs
4. The 3Gs can now support OpenGl ES 2.0 while the 3G can only support 1.1
5. The 3Gs has voice control and a magnetic compass which are not available in the 3G
the 3gs is faster, weighs less and has a video camera.
the 3g doesnt.
my man has 3gs i have only a 3g….im jealous. but either way i hate the iphone. my first one broke on its own after 6 months, had to get another one. this happened to my friend to.
also, if you like to text, this is not the phone for you. the letters are small and its a touchscreen and you will mispell everything if you try to type fast. i get so mad sometimes i want to toss it.
