i need a better network simulator software =(!!!?
Im using CCNA RouterSim Network like version 5.0, i must admit it’s a cracked version, but it’s fully functional and a clean hack,, (if that exists) that i persisted on a teachers assistant @ my old school getting me for practice,,, anyway i think i’ve reached my limitation with this,,, or the programs limitations have brought me to my wits end,, it appears i can’t create a simple ospf network with 3 areas and 3 routers comprised of
2 redundant switches
switch 2950
**etherchannel
switch 2950
*
*
*F 0/1 on 2600 router edge-1 (left most network)
with S0/0 of edge-1 connected to s0/0 of core router 2650
*
*
*
core router 2650
**withS0/1 to S0/1 of edge-2 router (2650)
edge2 F0/1 to F0/1 of right most 2950 redundant switch pair…
the configs i went over a million times,,edge-1 and core are fine..from the redundant switch pair all the way to S0/1 on the core router,…i more so can’t physically connect the edge-2 to core-router,,,i think it’s a bug or anything,, ok so,,now im upset,, because i want to do this,, simply.. =),,, any suggestions on a really really really good network virtualization software for cisco IOS?? i dont care if i have to pay i support good applications, and wouldn’t mind adding to library,,, other than this,, i can’t use any debug commands in a terminal,, i can’t set dhcp on a device or dns, many limitations, =( =( =(,,, please solutions for windows XP/Vista linux/unix systems are all applicable as i run all in my home either physically or in a VM.. thanks in advance
lol good point,,, was actually thinking of using some cisco devices in my home network seriously, as i would like to add some VOIP lines and do some more granular filtering @ my border… i will seriously think about this now,, as it has been suggested previously. thanks
dynamips is a good one too,,, the hardest part is just getting the Cisco IOS copy, either u own cisco device, know someone who owns, or have a log in to the site and have purchased the IOS, =( but that is a good one,,, and i did read up on dynagen GUI,, it is cool… hmmm…. (on a IOS journey) thanks !!!
Dynamips… is the winner… =)

What you need to use is dynamips. Its a cisco IOS emulator that you can load REAL IOS into. You need to get a legal copy of IOS, but the Dynamips software is free.
Also the new gui frontend Dynagen is very cool.
Not much on the switch side of things yet, but if you pt the etherswitch modules into the virtual routers you can do a lot.
Have fun.
When I was studying this stuff, I was fortunate to have access to a network lab. I suggest that you check with your local community college to see if they have one that you could work in. If that is not possible, you may want purchase a few lower end devices and set up your own lab. The most successful students that I have known all used lab equipment for practice. There is no substitute for hands on learning.
Try e-bay for some cheap Cisco gear.
