Why is the price for the PS3 20gb,40gb,80gb all the same price if they have different amounts of memory space?

I believe that the difference between the PS3’s that’s available to purchase is the amount of storage/memory on each one. So if that is correct, then why is the prices currently all the same ( excluding the bundle packages). And will there be a "slimmer" version of the PS3 coming out anytime soon?

The reason for that is that the first generation PS3, 20gb and 40gb, have a different reader in them. That reader allows for all the PS2 games to be played, while the newer generation does not and it only allows for most but not all of the PS2 games to be played.
are you sure that’s not right there’s no way an 80gig would cost the same as a 20 gig no way darling. where did you see that sweetcheeks.
The reason is because the 20gb and the 40gb are now discontinued models, there is a new 80gb model that replaces the 40gb, it has the same specs and everything just a bigger hard drive for the same price. But there is also a 160gb PS3 coming at the end of this month that will be $499.
They’re not the same price. The 20 gb was 500 bucks at launch, but when Sony released the 80 gb with Motorstorm, the 20 gb got a price drop down to 400 or 450 bucks. Forgot the exact price because so little of it were available for purchase. The 40 gb launch price was 400 bucks. It has recently been upgrade to 80 gb. The old 80 gb (came with Motorstorm or Metal Gear Solid 4) launch price was 500 bucks.
The reason they got different storage space at around the same price is simply that hard drives have gotten cheaper, so Sony is able to offer a price drop or give more storage space for the same price.
The slim version might be 12 or 18 months away. It’s getting there because Sony is rumored to start using smaller chips.
