This message is coming from a guy who owns and plays both systems as well as 27 other ones and been playing for 30 years. I am a fanboy of no system so I’m telling you straight.
Sony recently dropped the ps3 price to 299. I will compare it to a 360 elite which is the closest thing Microsoft has in terms of features compared to the ps3.
Ps3 has built in included wifi connection for wireless internet, the 360 does not. It will cost you another 100 bucks to buy an addon for the 360 to get wifi. (do note ps3 also includes ethernet for a wired internet connection also so you get both).
Ps3 has bluetooth and usb ports for flash drives, keyboard, mice, microphones, headsets, earpieces and so on, the 360 has neither nor can you add them on.
Ps3 comes with hdmi cables for hi def, Microsoft recently said they were going to stop putting HD cables in with elite systems.
Ps3 has 100% free online gaming, the 360 charges you a annual fee to play any game online or even have a friends list. Ps3 also has something called Home which is 100% free and optional to use where you make a character and run through a virtual world with other people, chat, check out themed areas like a resident evil 5 area with mini games, trailers playing on big screens, an apartment you get to own and decorate.
Ps3 can play blu ray high def movies and has a really good upconvert on dvds, 360 can only play normal dvds and doesnt improve their picture any.
Not to mention the ps3 runs dead quiet vs a 360 which is quite loud. And ps3 is known for being a pretty problem free machine while 360 even to this day still suffers from hardware problems, hell gamestop stopped taking extended warranties on them (don’t know if they do again now or not) because so many people were bringing them back with problems.
Far as games go both systems have 90% of the exact same games. All big names games like final fantasy 13, wolfenstein, bioshock, call of duty 4, fallout 3, grand theft auto 4, modern warfare 2, batman arkahm asylum, madden 10, assassins creed 2 and so on are on both systems and will continue to be on both.
Each year the list of exclusive games gets smaller. But personally the games on the ps3 that are exclusive I like better and have more of a variety to them. Killzone 2, MAG, final fantasy 13 versus, uncharted 1 and 2, little big planet, god of war 3, gran turismo 5, super stardust hd, metal gear solid 4, resistance 1 and 2, ratchet and clank tools of destruction, heavy rain among another dozen titles coming out in the next year that are ps3 only I like better. But all big name big production games will be on both systems.
And well, I personally like the ps3 controllers better.
360
Cons: Scratches discs, prone to RRoD, bigger heavier controllers
Pros: Larger game selection, More comprehensive friendslist and abilities
PS3
Cons: Unless you get used, there’s no more backwards compatibility, less of a game selection, older models are huge and they need plenty of ventilation room, atleast for healthy operation
Pros: Plenty of GREAT exclusives, many great games coming out within the next year, more reliable
PS3 has free online gaming i think and the crooks at microsoft make u pay! ive gota 360 but wish i had a ps3 but this might be me wanting what i don’t have. Most major titles you can get on both consoles tho . . . oh and ps3’s have a blue-ray built in they cost like £500 on their own!! . . . if u still cant decide . . . get both!!!
Well, Xbox 360 is less expensive. I personally like 360’s controllers more too.
Downside? Red ring of death has been pretty common in 360s, but its usually covered by a 2 yr warranty.
Though you dismiss it, the biggest factor for me was the games. 360 seems to have just about everything that PS3 does and then some (only one I can think of otherwise is God of War). Even the Final Fantasy franchise is coming to 360.
Go with a 360 unless you have a bunch of friends with only PS3’s. Games are way more fun to play with people you know.
360 had the best online play there is
but its not free
ps3 has bluray but selection of games and online isnt as good
In some games 360 graphics are better. watch side by side comparisons on youtube.
360 FTW and it now cost 299 for a elite the red ring of death has been fixed and the 360 has tons more games and the PS3 sucks! The Ps3 online is horrible and is expensive so get a 360
The biggest difference has got to be hands-down reliability.
The Xbox 360 has the worst reliability of any of the three consoles available today. (see link)

Personally, I would recommend the PS3 over the Xbox 360 b/c I’m on my 3rd 360 unit, and still on my first PS3 (and Wii).
online: 360 has much better online but it cost like $60 a year
Graphics: Ps3 due to better processor and so on
Games: Ps3 has many more and better exclusives
Reliability: Ps3 because the red rings of death on the 360.
Freezing: I don;t know I’ve had my ps3 since it came out and had not probs with it even with no cooling room but I;ve heard of no probs with it on 360 ether
Blutooth: Ps3 has it 360 doesn’t
Price: Ps3 Because you don’t need to buy a online adapter and don’t pay every year for online.
Overall:Ps3
repairs are free for the xbox
