IBM has been moving toward services and does much less with the individual consumers since selling the PC company to Lenovo. They are very strong in the high end servers and providing the related high end services and support for large corporations. Along with that, they are every much involved in developing technologies which also includes joint developments with other technology companies as well.
IBM does not market its products and services to individual consumers since they sold their PC division to Lenovo about 6 years ago. They manufacture business class servers, mainframe computers, and storage systems. They develop and market various business software (i.e Tivoli products, Lotus products, DB2) and they have a large business and government services division. They are still the largest technology company in the world.
Profit margin for consumer products is very tight in comparison to the business and government market place, and IBM never made a profit from their consumer product line, which is why they abandoned that market.
