i pre-ordered halo reach and got a code on the receipt but when i tryed to type it in on xbox live it wasnt long enough. its for the chest peice

I have a Halo Reach code, but I don’t have ODST. Can I still activate the code? If so, how?

I recently bought the halo reach legendary edition (I know what could i say I’m a halo nerd,lol) and noticed that the tape I pealed off to open the box had a code on it for free halo boots or something. I put in the code and it didn’t work. Is this a real code or not? If you have the legendary edition, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
