I am planning to buy a macbook pro soon. I would travel with it and take it to school, so i would like to set up a wireless network for it? How would that work? Do I need to get a portable router or modem for it?
I don’t want to rely on other networks for internet, such as the library, school etc.

I have an iPhone 3G with version 4.2.1 and Modem Firmware 05.15.04. I recently heard of the Turbo Sim. I wanted to know if i could use that to make the switch from AT&T to Verizon. If possible what will I have to do in order to make the turbo sim to work?

Can an internet modem go bad?

I’m wondering this because lately, I have been having some serious problems with my internet. I’ve been telling my family that it is a modem issue, but I would like to be absolutely sure first.

Here’s the problem. So I live in a family with a lot of different devices trying to access the internet, there is two computers that is plugged in at all times, two laptops that use wireless, three iPod touches, and a brand new Galaxy Tab. The two computers work perfectly fine all the time, but only one of the items that uses Wifi works all the time. It is one of the laptops, all the settings are the same on all the devices. Same wireless password everything, Shared, WEP all right. I’ve restarted the devices multiple times each. I can get connected to the wireless router, but there is no internet access. Which is the same for all my devices except for obviously the wired computers and the one laptop that works. Also, I tried to do a wired connection to the laptop that doesn’t work and it didn’t fix the problem and still wouldn’t connect to the internet.

Both laptops are the same model purchased within the same day, both iPod touch 2nd generations have trouble and the iPod touch 4G has trouble too. Same with the galaxy tab. I’m almost positive that it isn’t the router because I’ve used two different routers, one D-Link, one a Linksys DD-WRT Tmobile hotspot router. Both do the exact same thing. We have two different modems. Both the same model and both 5+ years old. I had just switched back to the other one that I wasn’t using up until the last couple days because I had the same problem with wifi, and the internet would disconnect for a few minutes every ten minutes or so. The new one disconnect more frequently but reconnects faster and has the same problem with wifi. I included both of those for the most accurate answer possible.

Any advice would be great, best answer will go to the one that tells me if modems can go bad and if it sounds like that’s what happened to my system. Sources would be great too.
The router is a USRouter Model US104. Both of them are the same model router.

Sorry for the triple post, internet went down for a second, but when I’m having connectivity problems for either router and modem combination, the lights are normal. The Power light and Link light are steadly on, and the data and Lan #1 lights are blinking like normal.
