New GPU, thinking GeForce 200 series. Need help with comparisons/choices.?
Today i got fed up with my 1 year old, self built computer. It has recently been crashing a lot and screen glitching. I dont know what is causing this, computer says all drivers are up to date, and i have recently reformatted my computer so not too sure if it’s a virus or not. I opened it up today, gave it a good dusting, cleaned the fans out, and it seemed like there was a lot of dust in both the processor and GPU heatsinks. This alone might fix the problem if it was caused due to overheating. However, i have a lot of gift cards and extra cash from the holidays, and was thinking it a good time to upgrade, or at least get the opinions of some that are more informed than i am.
My current setup is:
NZXT Zero case
AMD Phenom 9950 Black processor (2.66)
MSI DKA790GX Platinum mobo
750w Corsair PSU
MSI HD Radeon 4850
Was reading a review on my current GPU on benchmarkreviews.com in which they also had testings for 2 of them in crossfire, which was an option i was looking at. However, in the review, it had the "ZOTAC GTX 280 AMP!" card outperforming everything. I then read the review of that card on their site, and they had nothing but praise for it and the new technology, with a few minor opinionated cons. However upon looking for this card at newegg and google search, it has been hard to find, and have seen a lot of 285. I dont follow GPUs enough to know what differences there are or if it has been a total replace or what. So far i have seen 260s, 275, 285, and 295. I think 295 is out of my league in price, so i was wondering if i could get some opinions and suggestions on what to do.
Options:
Another 4850 to run in CrossFire
GTX 260
GTX 275
GTX 285
Of all the GTX, please also specify which manufacturer (e.g. EVGA, Zotac, etc.) and why.
Thank you in advance!
Added: Sorry i forgot to mention i have 2×2g OCZ Reaper DDR3 1600 for my RAM, so that’s not the problem either, pretty sure my mobo is fine. Like i said it could have been due to overheating due to an overly dusty case, or it still may be possible that a virus has caused this, though less likely. Would also like for multiple people to make suggestions and give advice/counter advice to an upgrade on the GPU
Take note that this setup has run for me for a year straight, so no DOA items
